The last goal by an Italian for Juventus against Hellas Verona was netted by Daniele Rugani in 2018 to open the scoring on the day the Bianconeri celebrated winning the seventh of the nine Scudettos in succession.
In the history of the fixture there have been many other goals from defenders that have had an equally important bearing on the outcome.
LEONARDO BONUCCI
Leonardo Bonucci is certainly more at home inside his own penalty area but the central defender loves the chance to ruffle some feathers in the opposition box, too.
Take the opening match in season 2016/17. Juve were facing the Gialloblu at the Allianz Stadium and Leo double the team's lead just before the break when he rose to powerfully head home a free-kick from Paulo Dybala, the player that had opened the scoring.
SERGIO PORRINI
One of the most memorable Juventus-Verona matches took place on 15 December 1996 at the Delle Alpi.
The Bianconeri found themselves down by two goals but managed to turn the situation around thanks to a scintillating display from Alessandro Del Piero.
The winning goal was one of Pinturicchio's most memorable brushstrokes. In the photo we see him embraced by Segio Porrini among others. It was the tough defender that had thrown Juve a lifeline in the match with the goal that halved the distance.
ANTONIO CABRINI
A moment from Juventus-Verona in 1986-87, in a decade in which the two teams competed at the highest level. In the photo we can see Antonio Cabrini peeling off the Gialloblu wall.
Three minutes from the end it would be a free-kick from Cabrini himself that would swing the balance in Juve's favour after Lionello Manfredonia had cancelled out Preben Elkjær's opener for the visitors.
SANDRO SALVADORE
Juventus have never lost at home to Verona - a proud tradition was made possible in part by Sandro Salvadore. It was the first home game of season 1972-73 and with the team down by a goal, the defender was given license to push forward in the Bianconeri's desperate last attacks.
The presence of the number 6 paid dividends five minutes from the end when he flicked a header from Pietro Anastasi beyond the stranded Verona keeper to salvage a point for the Lady.
