On Tuesday evening, for the second time in Champions League history, Juventus will play in Haifa. A city of over 280 thousand inhabitants in the heart of Israel, it is the third largest in all of Israel. Haifa is an important port and industrial centre, located on the Mediterranean coastline at the foot of Mount Carmel.
Among the must-see sites for tourists are the Bahai Terraces, hanging gardens that have become the real symbol of the city. Inspired by the ancient Persian gardens, there are 19 terraces decorated with flowers and declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. At the top of the gardens on Mount Carmel is the Shrine of the Báb, a bright golden dome over 40 meters high which dominates the flowered terraces. Haifa is also famous for its beaches and the night life they generate. The most important are Dado Beach, Bat Galim Beach and Meridian Beach.
THE SAMMY OFER STADIUM
The home of Maccabi Haifa is the Sammy Ofer stadium, with a capacity of over 30 780. The ground was named after the late Israeli billionaire, who donated a large sum of money for the construction, which started in 2009 and was completed in 2014. During the season, in addition to being the home of the Greens from the Carmel, it is also the home of Hapoel Haifa and hosts matches of the Israeli national team.
