There are so many tales to tell from Juventus' history. Beyond successes, there are specific goals that will live long in the memory of any fan of the club.
On Sunday, August 20, at 20:45 CEST, the Bianconeri will open another Serie A season, and we'll do so away in Udine, the scene of the final game of last season. Then, the match was settled with a solitary Federico Chiesa goal.
Of the 49 games the two sides have played against on another in Udine, Juventus have won 37. Of those, some stand out in their importance, and one of those came on May 5, 2002. That date is now unforgettable for Juventus fans, with the Bianconeri then locked in a title race with both Inter and Roma on the final day of the season. Juve knew what they had to do themselves, while also waiting for good news from Rome. It was a photo finish, but Juventus managed to get themselves in front of the Giallorossi and seal the Scudetto.
After about 70 seconds, things were already happening. David Trezeguet, served by Pavel Nedved in the box, immediately put Juve ahead for his 24th goal of the season. Udinese knocked, but Gianluigi Buffon held the door shut.
Juventus waited and looked to strike on the counterattack, and it was Alessandro Del Piero who put the icing on the cake. He perfectly found Trezeguet who, in turn, found the Italian. His touch was good and his finish was even better, scoring a goal that was as beautiful as it was important. There were even more emotions involved for Del Piero as it was on that same pitch that on November 8, 1998, he had injured his left knee.
The goal paved the way for Juventus to win their 26th Scudetto, and it was Del Piero's 16th of the season.
Del Piero's strike and Lazio's 4-2 win over Inter meant that Juventus ended the day as champions of Italy, and that strike will forever be fondly remembered.
