Juventus versus Roma. A rematch of last season's Coppa Italia final, or this season's Supercoppa. Another showdown between the two teams that have dueled for the league title these last two Serie A campaigns.
Let's retrace the steps the Giallorosse took to reach the showdown in Salerno.
GROUP STAGE
In the group stage, the Giallorosse were drawn alongside Arezzo and Como and qualfication proved to be more compliacted than expected.
The first match on November 29 against Arezzo resulted in a 3-0 success with goals from of Elin Landström, Claudia Ciccotti and Sophie Haug. Against Como on January 7, it ended 1-1. The game's opening goal was scored by Juve loanee Chiara Beccari on 40 minutes. One minute later Emilie Haavi equalised for Roma.
Both Roma and Como finished the group on four points but by virtue of a better goal difference, +3 for Roma to +1 for Como, the team coached by Alessandro Spugna advanced to the knock-out phase.
QUARTER FINAL
No such compliactions emerged for Roma in the quarter-final against Pomigliano. The Giallorosse thrashed the Panthers 8-1 away in the first leg on January 25 despite leading only 2-0 at half time.
Manuela Giugliano and Valentina Giacinti netted a goal apiece while Benedetta Glionna, Andressa and Nina Kajba each grabbed a brace.
In the second leg, played on February 8, teenager Zara Kramžar netted both goals in a 2-0 win that completed a 10-1 aggregate success.
SEMI FINAL
The opposition for both Juventus and Roma in the semi-finals came from the city of Milan. While Juve took on Inter, Roma faced the Rossonere.
The opening leg was played on March 5 in Milan and the hosts emerged with a 1-0 win, ending an 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions for the Giallorosse. The game's only goal was scored by Martina Piemonte on 42 minutes.
The striker also scored the opening goal in the return leg on 31 minutes to give Milan a two-goal advantage on aggregate. However, 10 minutes later Andressa gave Roma a lifeline and with 63 minutes played Giacinti scored against her former side to tie the contest.
With the match heading towards extra time, Vicky Losada scored a 101st minute winner for Roma to win 3-1 on the day, 3-2 on aggregate.
