Sporting CP continued their unbeaten run in the Liga Portugal at the weekend. A 1-1 draw with Arouca stretched the sequence without loss to eight matches, but Sporting were unable to close the gap on Boavista in third place, the last position for Champions League qualification next season.

HOME FORM
Despite accumulating a total of 17 shots against Arouca on Sunday evening, the Lions from Lisbon required an 87th minute penalty, converted by Pedro Gonçalves, to share the points with the team 13 points adrift but just one place lower in the standings.
It was the first home draw of the league campaign for Rúben Amorim's side in the league. Sporting's record at the Estádio José de Alvalade now reads 11 wins, one draw and two defeats from the 14 Pimeira Liga matches so far, bringing 34 of the team's 58-point total.
However, Sporting have proved to be less dominant in their own arena on the European scene.
EUROPEAN FORM
The first European night at the Avalade this campaign came against Tottenham Hotspur on Champions League Matchday 2. Sporting collected all three points thanks to two goals from the 90th minute onwards. The success over Spurs has remained their only home win in Europe so far.
Sporting's Champions League run ended with a 2-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt - the second home loss in a row following a 2-0 setback against Marseille.
The Verde e Brancos set off on their Europa League adventure against FC Midtjylland. Long-serving central defender Sebastian Coates grabbed a 94th-minute equaliser to cancel out the Danish outfit's opening goal. Sporting then cruised to a 4-0 win in Denmark in the return leg.
The last-16 brought Sporting together with Arsenal. Again the home leg finished all square. The game's four goals were scored in the space of 40 minutes, with Sporting overcoming an early deficit to then concede their lead just after the hour mark.
After a 1-1 draw in the return leg in London, Nuno Santos struck the winner in the penalty shoot-out that sent the Lisbon club into the quarter-finals.
