It was a peculiar season, one that was filled with uncertainty and shaped by a penalty in the Serie A standings that conditioned the way things ended. The numerous injuries suffered did not make the situation any better but Juventus, despite the adverse events of the season, still managed to have its moments, and below we have compiled the five most standout games involving the Bianconeri in 2022/23.
1. Torino 0-1 Juventus: Vlahović delivers joy in the Derby della Mole
On the tenth matchday, Juve came into the Derby della Mole after a defeat away at AC Milan and a 2-0 Champions League blow at the hands of Maccabi Haifa. Tthere was a real need to bounce back and send a message, and what better occasion than the Derby against Toro? Massimiliano Allegri deployed the combination of Moise Kean and Dusan Vlahović in attack in an attempt to find the way to goal again.
The match got going, and Juventus had their chances. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic stopped Dusan several times with important saves, Kean, early in the second half, failed to find the opening goal and so the match seemed to be heading towards a goalless draw, but in the 74th minute came the turning point. Juan Cuadrado's corner from the right saw Danilo go to the sky to head it on, and Vlahović was the quickest at the back post to stretch to turn in the decisive goal. It was 0-1, and a solid performance from Allegri's boys. Turin was painted black and white.
2. Juventus 3-0 Lazio: A Kean double and a Serie A streak
The victory against Torino started a convincing streak of results in Serie A. There were five consecutive victories that sought to make the team forget the disappointment of the elimination in the Champions League.
At the Allianz Stadium, the opponent for the 15th matchday is Maurizio Sarri's Lazio, with the Bianconeri looking to try to stay on the heels of Napoli. Juventus were dragged by the offensive streak of Moise Kean. He is the one who broke the deadlock with a fine lob after an assist from Adrien Rabiot a few minutes from the end of the first half.
Lazio could not get back on track, Allegri limited Sarri's midfield of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto. In the second half, it was Kean again who scored with a tap-in. Arek Milik made it 3-0 late on and the night belonged to Juventus, which was undeniably one of their best games of the season.
3. Freiburg 0-2 Juventus: Dušan gets it going, Chiesa kills it off
It was a peculiar week: Juventus beat Sampdoria in the league and before the huge challenge with Inter there was the job of closing off the Freiburg tie in the Europa League. Juventus had managed to win the first leg 1-0 win thanks to Angel Di María's strike, but progression remained in the balance.
The match was immediately heated, but Juve were focused on the job at hand. Early on, Vlahović had a goal ruled out for offside, and late in the half, penalty was awarded to the Bianconeri. Dušan stepped up and made no mistake in putting the chance away.
The second half was anything but a walk in the park. Freiburg pushed to pull a goall back, but Juve held on and, right at the end of the game, Federico Chiesa put the icing on the cake of the win. It ended 0-2, Allegri guided the Bianconeri to the quarterfinals and sparked hope for a positive end to the season.
4. Inter 0-1 Juventus: Kostić delivers at the Meazza
After advancing to the next round in the Europa League, Juventus dreamt of a big win in Milan against Inter on the 27th matchday. Juve's 2-0 win in November forced the Nerazzurri to seek revenge at home and the start of the match was going the way of Simone Inzaghi's men. Inter went close to scoring thanks to Nicolo Barella, but Wojciech Szczęsny was equal to everything thrown at him.
Juve defended well and waited for the opportune moment to strike at speed, and the opportunity came midway through the first half when Filip Kostić burst forward and was clinical, firing a fine strike that Andre Onana could do nothing to keep out.
Inter came out in search of a goal in the second half, but it was Kostić and Chiesa who missed the chance to double Juve's lead by a matter of centimeters. There was more than a bit of late resistance needed from Juventus, but the Bianconeri held on and won their second Derby d'Italia of the season.
5. Atalanta 0-2 Juventus: Iling Junior's first Serie A goal
With five rounds of fixtures to go, the Bianconeri were fully in the running for qualification for the Champions League. The game in Bergamo was a direct clash against Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta. The Bergamaschi knew that this was likely one of their last chances to get back into the race, and so the Nerazzurri pushed hard and early. First, Giorgio Scalvini hit the post on the end of a corner and then Mario Pasalic went close. At the break, the score was locked at 0-0.
In the second half, the mood definitely changed. Samuel Iling Junior won a ball on the left lane and gave it to Adrien Rabiot for a cross in the middle. With the ball pinballing around the box, it was the same Englishman who pounced to make it 1-0 and and to celebrate his first Serie A goal.
Atalanta were up for the challenge of a comeback, but couldn't manage it. Teun Koopmeiners engaged Tek from a free kick and Davide Zappacosta rattled the woodwork for the second time for the hosts. Despite the danger faced, the Bianconeri held firm. Late on, Vlahović came up with a masterpiece shot from outside the box to kill off the match and take the three points back home to Turin.
